Jacques Labrunie is the founding partner of Gusmão & Labrunie, a lawyer and professor with more than four decades of experience in Intellectual Property. He holds a Ph.D. in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP) and an LL.M. from Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas, building a distinguished career that combines academic excellence, extensive experience in complex disputes, and active participation in the development of Intellectual Property law in Brazil.
His practice is particularly recognized for litigation, legal opinions, and advisory work involving complex and strategic industrial property matters. He represents Brazilian and international clients across a broad range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, agribusiness, chemicals, electronics, technology, automotive, and oil and gas.
In addition to his legal practice, Jacques has played an important role in the advancement of Intellectual Property in Brazil. As a Professor at PUC-SP, a member of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association (ABPI), and an expert and arbitrator at the ABPI Dispute Resolution Chamber, he has contributed to the development of both the academic and institutional landscape of the field. Consistently recognized in the Gold tier and other leading categories by the world’s foremost legal directories, he is the author of books and articles published in Brazil and abroad and is widely recognized for his expertise in Intellectual Property, particularly in patents and complex disputes involving industrial assets.
